Visa renewal extended to 3 months
From March 1, 2026, the application period for visa renewals under several talent and employment schemes will be shortened from one month before expiry to three months. This adjustment aims to give applicants more time to prepare documents and avoid delays caused by holidays or business trips. Applicable schemes include: - General Employment Policy (GEP) - Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP) - TechTalent Admission Scheme (TechTAS) - IANG Arrangement for Non-Local Graduates to Stay/Return to Hong Kong for Employment (IANG) - Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (QMAS) - Admission Scheme for Second Generation of Hong Kong Permanent Residents of Chinese Nationality (ASSG) * Note: This arrangement was first implemented under the High-Level Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS) at the end of 2024.

e-Channel service threshold lowered
To improve clearance efficiency, the Immigration Department has relaxed the eligibility requirements for frequent visitors to Hong Kong to register for e-Channel service from February 27, 2026: 1. Number of Visits Halved: The requirement for visits to Hong Kong via Hong Kong International Airport in the past 24 months has been reduced from 3 to 2. 2. Simplified Procedures: Registration procedures have been simplified, and eligible visitors holding valid travel documents and multiple-entry tourist visas can register free of charge.

Professional Talent Admission Scheme (VPAS) Extend
First batch of applications for the Vocational and Professional Admission Scheme (VPAS) The Vocational and Professional Graduates Staying in Hong Kong Scheme, launched in the 2024/25 academic year, will enter a critical phase in mid-2026. The first batch of non-local students enrolled in the Vocational Training Council (VTC) designated full-time Higher Diploma courses will graduate at this time, at which point they can formally apply to stay in Hong Kong for one year to find professional-related jobs.

Digitalization and Administrative Updates
1. "iAM Smart" Application Progress Check: From January 1, 2026, users can check the application progress for various visas, verify permanent resident identity card eligibility, or Chinese nationality through "iAM Smart". 2. Online Certificate of No Criminal Record (CNCC): From January 1, 2026, applicants located outside Hong Kong must submit their applications through the Hong Kong Police Force Online Application Platform. Applications submitted by mail or in drop boxes will no longer be accepted.
